Choosing the right oil water separator can seem like a challenging feat. Very few applications are made the same and the same goes for oil water separators. As a customer it is important to understand the different aspects of these separators so they know for sure that they are getting what they paid for. One of the biggest factors to consider when choosing the right separator is that there is a major difference between separators, traps, and interceptors. Not all of the products that are called separators do not do a very good job and are actually traps or interceptors.
These may seem like wise choices, but they only consist of weirs and baffles. They will trap the oil but they will not separate it from the rest of the water. It may have seemed like a good purchase but the consumer has just spent quite a bit of money to still have oil in their water which makes it unusable. It is important that you make sure you are buying a separator and not just a trap.
You need to make sure that when you are choosing your oil water separator that you find one that is able to disperse the oils into a separate concentration. It has to be able to get down deep into the water and separate the oil from all of the water from top to bottom. Traps are only able to trap the water from the top but does not really eliminate it from the water. This can cause a major problem when it comes to the cleanliness of the water.
