It’s not that hard to make great fondant but some bakers struggle with this part of the cake decorating process. If you have been having a hard time making your fondant look just the way you want it to, there is no need for concern. By following some basic tips, you will be well on your way to making fantastic fondant to place atop your cake creations.

Purchase the right ingredients

The first tip to making great fondant is to purchase all of the ingredients you will need ahead of time. In addition to the ingredients to make the fondant, you’ll also want to purchase a fondant rolling pin. The fondant rolling pin will ensure that your fondant comes out smooth, flat, and even once the mixture is ready to be worked with. Some of the ingredients you will need for your fondant include gelatin, cold water, glucose, glycerin, confectioner’s sugar, and a bowl.

Mix the fondant ingredients together

Once you have purchased the things you will need, you can then begin to make your fondant mixture. The first step is to mix together the gelatin and cold water. You will then want to let this mixture stand a while until it has thickened up. You can then move on to the next step of placing the gelatin mix into the top of a double boiler and heat it until it has melted out.

At this stage, you will then want to add in the glucose and glycerin and mix these together well. Finally, you can move on to placing 4 cups of the confectioner’s sugar in a large mixing bowl. Once everything has been combined, you will want to use your fondant right away by rolling it out with a fondant rolling pin. Any extra fondant should be stored in an airtight container in a refrigerated space.

With these basic ingredients and a high quality fondant rolling pin, you will be well on your way to making amazing fondant for your cakes.
