Be Wary of Bogus Bail Bonds

When you are in need of bail bonds, the last thing you want to worry about is whether or not the bail is bogus. However, that is exactly what families have had to worry about lately as police say that a bogus bail bonds agent has been targeting Hispanic families who were trying to bond a loved one out of jail. A legitimate bail bonds agent out of Nashville is offering some helpful advice.

Channel 5 News reports that a sheriff’s investigator from Coffee County believes that a man posing as a bail bonds agent scammed two different Hispanic families recently. Apparently, the scammer has done his homework because he gave receipts to both families and produced what looked like authentic bonds for each them. However, when the families went to post the bail, they learned that their bonds were useless.

The sheriff’s investigator said that both were non-English speaking Hispanic families who were trying to get a loved one out of jail. Both instances involved a $900 bail. The investigator believes that the bogus bondsman was trying to capitalize on the language barrier and was banking on the fact that the victims would not report him to the authorities.

An authentic bail bonds agent from Nashville offered some advice for other families so that they do not find themselves in similar circumstances. First of all, a real bail bonds agent will have an office near the jail or courthouse. If an agent insists on meeting at a public place such as a restaurant, that is reason to be suspicious. Also, a family can ask to see the agent’s photo ID badge. All legitimate bail bonds agents will have credentials indicating that they are authorized to act as bail bondsmen in Tennessee.

Finally, if anything at all should seem suspicious, do not hand over any money for bail bonds until you are sure that the agent with whom you are dealing is truly authorized to bond your loved one out of jail. In both instances where the families were scammed, the bogus agent contacted the families rather than the other way around. If you have any doubts, it is better to be safe than sorry. An authentic agent will not mind you checking credentials or verifying ID.

When you or a loved one is in trouble, you should not have to worry about someone trying to take advantage of you. With a little effort, you can make sure that you are dealing with a legitimate Nashville area bail bonds agent and you can obtain an authentic bail bonds in no time.
